Black Screen after Champion Select

I am able to get through champion select without any bugs or defects - but what comes after is a different story; the screen turns black and I can't get out until shutting it down completely. My past 2 games have been a defeat due to not being able to log in. It seems that the last patch, my LoL was working fine until the recent patch.
