Couldn't use ablilities, had to click them to use them

I went into an aram game as kayle and when i went to use my abilities I couldn't use my hot keys. the only way i could cast my abilities was by clicking on them. i tried resetting my hotkeys and anything else i could think of, but nothing changed. thought of maybe restarting league, but can't really do that while in game :/. anyways, i just want to know if it was my computer and if theres something i can do about it, or if maybe it was just the program its self
