Relic shield doesn't work when i use a ranged attack from the bushmaker, only with melee attacks.

That's because only melee attacks can proc the execute damage. You can still proc the heal/gold share even if you're ranged, but you have to last hit without the execute damage.

I was actually kind of wondering about that. I knew that the execute didn't work for ranged champions, but I actually didn't know that last hitting would share gold and grant the heal for ranged champions if they last hit normally.

Am I correctly understanding you, or is it only for champions who have a ranged and a melee form? Which would seem strange to me.

Any ranged champ can last hit to gold share. That's exclusively how Thresh uses it. Technically you could use it with anyone, even Janna or Soraka. Additionally, you'll notice if you're someone like Sion and you land a fully powered Q on a wave and kill a bunch of minions with several charges on the Shield, that will also proc as many charges as minions killed because you last hit minions with an ability.
