Ardent Censer Bug

Ardent Censer had an undocumented change in 9.15 which allowed it to be applied to yourself via self heal or shield, eg. Skarner W, Diana W, Udyr W etc...

The self shielding portion seems to work as intended. However, this does not seem to be true for self heals, eg. Nidalee E on self, Sylas W, Bard W on self etc... despite the description stating that both heals and shields proc it.

(Note that in the case of Nidalee, Bard, and any other champ that can heal either themselves or allies (but not both at once), the item works as intended when healing your teammate, it simply doesn't work when healing yourself).

This can be tested in practice tool:

  1. Pick a champ with self-heal, such as Nid or Sylas
  2. Buy Ardent, use your self-heal ability
  3. Auto-attack the Enemy Dummy. The expected result here is for blue damage number to pop up (the magic on-hit), but it doesn't

This is replicate-able 100% of the time.

Additional steps:

  1. Spawn and heal Ally Dummy
  2. Note that you DO get the buff for healing the ally, so this works as intended. (Works 100% of the time). This makes it clear that the bug is for SELF-heal only.

Ardent Censer/Nashors/Guinsoos melee carry Diana?

Relatedly, are we sure this isn't intended?

This is not new. It's been like that for a while.

The self-shielding bug has been around since at least June I’d say. No fixes yet, despite multiple people bringing it up. The unique passive is ONLY supposed to apply when X champion heals OR shields Y ally — NOT when X champion heals/shields X self.

I found a good work around with Overheal, as the heal would push you over your max health and give you a shield, procing Ardent.
