A problem with a solution that isn't really clear

So, i've been playing league for about 4 years now and there is a problem that i would always run in to that has a simple solution that i always forget about. Sometimes league will just all of a sudden stop working and wont even launch the client. This problem is caused by a new windows update that you haven't downloaded yet. It always happens and i would always forget the solution and go through a whole bunch of unnecessary steps such as downloading the hextech repair tool when all i needed to do was update windows. I'm probably stupid for having this same problem every once in a while but it doesn't seem to be addressed in Riot support.
