League says im spectating even though im not even in a game
the game says im spectating someone even though i am not, the section where you access your inventory and press "PLAY" is gone for me, cant be invited or anything. Help.

On windows go to C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\Config Delete a file called LeagueClientSettings.yaml Then open league Client should give you a new player Agreement and welcome you as a new player. Just sign in and everything should be fine
Spectated a friend. Game crashed. Now i have the same thing as well. Was it fixed for you?
same here tried to spectate a friend, and now im rigged into the client. it says that im keep spectating, but i cant even start a match or join a lobby

Yes my league is doing that too but i get no "reconnect button" or "quit button" its just the regular league lobby with the entire play collection profile store and lott tabs all missing and my profile just says spectating.
Same here.. Tried to spectate a friend, but somehow it crashed, and now i am stuck on a black screen ish.. Help! :))
Same here =(. Spectated a friend yesterday, logged in today and got the massage : "You have been removed from the Party." My status says "spectating" and I can't select play, the shop etc. Don't know how to fix this. Can't join games or do anything. Please help
yo I think i got a solution. you gotta click the 'quit' button next to the 'reconnect' button really fast when you see it. It worked for me

Sorry this is happening, I'm sure this is aggravating. We've found what we think is the cause and we're working on a fix.
In the meantime, the workaround that poptropican890 described is what I would recommend trying. (upvote them!)

Adding a little more details for clarity.
This is a little technical, so if you feel uncomfortable I think you could also just fully reinstall the league client.
As a warning, this will delete some of your settings. I'm going to have you rename the file so you could always revert it, but that's probably not necessary.

Close League Client

Find the folder that contains your config files.
Windows: C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\Config Mac: Applications -> League of Legends -> Right-click the icon -> Show Package Content -> Contents -> LOL -> Config

Rename your LeagueClientSettings.yaml file to something else so that LeagueClient won't find it.

Restart LeagueClient
This should recreate the file when you restart LeagueClient without the troublesome settings that are putting you into this state.
If this doesn't work, then uninstalling league and deleting the folder to make sure no files are left over is probably the next option.

same thing happened to me. what i did was repair client, then it shows the (reconnect or quit) mode for a split second. u have to spam that quit butto before it disappears and hope u get it in time

I got this error when I alt+f4 from spectator mode
i deleted the file called LeagueClientSettings.yaml, re opened the client but it says "repairing" and now i cant even open the client itself, just says "repair failed" i did all the steps in teh "repair failed" website information and none of the worked
Hitting the quit button worked for me, doing anything to lag the client a bit so you can spam click that quit button works. I tried logging into my second account and that seemed to slow it down a bit.
I cannot exit the spectate mode but I am using Mac so I don't know how to delete that file. Anyone can help me?
Solution to this its happened 3 times now and this is how i have fixed it each time --- 1. close league fully 2. log in 3. as the log in turns into the league symbol with the loading bar press escape (this should bring up the reconnect / quit option) 4. after clicking OK to the you were removed from party quickly press the reconnect button (put your mouse as far left of the OK button so that you can spam click and it should click okay then immediately click reconnect)
