The other day Riot gifted me a free mystery skin (Freljord Ashe) that is unavailable for me to use in-game and was wondering if it has happened to other players with other skins? This is totally unfair for people, I and anybody else who got an unavailable skin should be refunded for a another mystery skin.

You'd do better for yourself by submitting a support ticket. Support doesn't go through these and just fix your problems, they need a ticket.

Send a ticket and they'll look into it to see what the problem is. Maybe you got a different skin and that's why the problem is happening. (I know when I gifting my girlfriend creator viktor for her birthday it didn't say that.)
