Anivia's R being cancled

Soo I played a game with Anivia vs a Kassadin, thinking "Oh yeah his Q doesn't silence anymore, and gives a shield." Well ingame I was hitting him with R a majority of the time and he would just Q and my ult would stop. I don't know if this is normal but I havn't walked out of range on my ulty either. Any ideas if this is normal?

Yes, this is normal. Anivia's ultimate is treated as a channeled spell, so it will be cancelled by anything that interrupts channeled spells. Even though Kassadin's Q doesn't silence anymore, it still has the ability to interrupt channeled spells, so it will cancel Anivia's ultimate.
