Computer won't recognize my monitor after games.

So a few times now once the game ends i don't get the option to click victory or defeat, the game just exits and my desktop screen never comes up, the monitor just runs through the inputs and shuts off. sometimes recovery is easy but some times it requires multiple updates and restarts. Anyone else experience crashes like this or know how to get it to stop? It is incredibly frustrating.
