[CLIENT] Mac OSX El Capitan very high CPU usage in new draft mode

Description: After logging in, the LolClient process uses about 10% of CPU. But after launching the new Draft Pick (either normal or ranked), LolClient uses more than 100% CPU. Computer fans started to work on maximum power to prevent overheat: a lot of fan noise was heard. > An overheated computer destroy and shorten the lifespan of the hardware. An overheat computer will also run slower than a cooler computer.

System Specs: Mac OSX El Capitan (version 10.11.2) MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB (This problem does not seem to happen only on my computer. Two of my friends, who are playing on OSX Yosemite and El Capitan, are having this issue as well. )

How to reproduce:

  1. Log in by typing username and password
  2. Play -> PvP -> Classic -> SR -> any draft pick queue -> Launch
  3. Check CPU usage with Activity Monitor, or use "top" command inside Terminal
  4. fan will be working with maximum power due to CPU usage reaching >= 100%

Frequency: Always happen and easily reproducible

Possible cause: I think high CPU usage is caused by the pretty particle/smoke animations in the background. After queuing up and entering ban phase, CPU was normal (10-20%) when no champions in the middle of the screen -- the one who is banning haven't chosen who to ban yet. There are no particles/smoke flying during that step, therefore, we got low CPU usage. The CPU sky-rocketed to 120% once a player selects a champion and presses the ban button. Since a lot of particles/smoke appeared during this step ( champion card appeared, got slashed, and particle/smoke is flying to the top of the window), this high CPU usage was expected. After the ban phase, during pick phase, the CPU went as high as 170%: there are particles/smoke in the middle, flying either to the left or right side. Thus, high CPU usage might be caused by computation of particle/smoke animations.

edit: added pictures of smoke white smoke during queue smoke during champion select

Update:

High CPU usage happens with the new Hextech crafting tab too. The floating box with the floating smoke animation is also eating up a lot of cpu.

Here is the output of "top" command from terminal when a chest is showing on the right side of the hextech page:

30408- LolClient 179.2 05:26.10 30/4 8 318 646M+ 11M 0B 30408 30396 running
30396- LoLPatcher 1.1 00:03.23 19 0 64 5004K 0B 0B 30396 30395 sleeping 30395- LoLLauncher 0.8 00:02.22 8 3 159 8352K 64K 0B 30395 30394 stuck

(3rd column is the CPU usage, it says 179.2% cpu, which is very high)

Is there an easy way to implement a button to toggle these animations on/off? Thanks

Same problem on Yosemite - the smoke animation causes 100% CPU usage on one core.

I'm having the same issue. I play a lot of league (especially now during the summer, it's like an all day thing for me). On my mac, it's using sometimes 110% CPU. This scares me and i'm worried about my very expensive laptop. I definitely don't want it to die young because of this!

my temporary solution:

I am using an app called "AppPolice" which can limit the %CPU used. I capped LoLClient at 80%, however, the sound become insanely lagging so I have a muted client.
