[GAMEPLAY] Mordekaiser - q hitting enemies not in the animation

On Mordekaiser, when using your q ability its possible to hit an enemy that's outside out of the range of your q that's shown right before the ability hits. I noticed this several times in a game i was playing against a Mordekaiser where i thought i dodged the ability but was hit anyway and when i went back to look at the footage it looked like i walked outside of the shown animation. I then went into practice tool as Mordekaiser and attempted to hit a target dummy with my q without them being in the animation shown before the q does damage since target dummies don't move and was able to prove almost immediately Mordekaiser q can hit the enemy even if they aren't in the animation that shows where the q will hit. This bug is extremely easy to recreate the same way i did by entering a practice tool as Mordekaiser and attempting to get a target dummy just outside the range of your q. As you can see in the video no part of the practice dummy is anywhere near the outside of the Mordekaiser q yet it does damage anyway.

You must be a brand new player. Welcome.

I've been playing the game since season 1 and i was diamond season 6 and 7

Then I'm actually confused by your thread.

Hitboxes haven't matched visuals since the beginning. Surely you've seen the videos of the crazy blitz/thresh hooks.

Navy Dubber1 votes

they don't match them exactly but there's no instance of an ability like this. the hitboxes of abilities like that are different because we don't see where they're hitting the problem with this ability is it gives you an outline telling you exactly where the ability will hit before the ability hits and then it hits you anyway. The fact that it shows the outline causes it to hit when it shouldn't more because you aren't gonna dodge it by a mile. This has been an issue with abilities like thresh q or blitz q but i don't think its ever been a problem with abilities like this such as gragas q or sion q. also if you look at this screenshot https://imgur.com/a/csbE94u theres a pretty decent gap between the ability and the dummy i'd call that a good dodge. This isn't something that happens once a game and doesn't matter when laning against him this was happening to me constantly even after watching the game to make sure that i wasn't just assuming i dodged when i didn't. Also even if this has been a problem for a long time that doesn't mean its not a problem anymore

Kanzler1 votes

You see the ability hitbox, but not the champion hitbox.

Navy Dubber1 votes

Then explain why other similar abilities don't do the same thing? it took me less than a minute to try to recreate this glitch over and over in practice tool as Mordekaiser yet haven't been able to recreate it the same way with similar abilities such as sion q or darius q even when getting much closer than i did with Mordekaiser q. This isn't a consistent problem that the entire game has this is a problem with Mordekaiser q. btw as a note i didn't just test darius and sion i tested every champion that i could think of that has a similar ability where it shows the ability outline before hitting and didn't find a single champion that has the same problem

So I actually just looked at your gif.

The target dummy is clearly within the indicated zone....

The other dummy is playing mordekaiser [slayer-jinx-wink]

Navy Dubber1 votes

are you sure you're looking at the right gif lol look at the screenshot of i sent of when it shows the indicator there's a pretty big gap between the dummy and the outline...

Alright buddy. Keep wondering why things hit when the visuals dont line up. I hear if you plug your ears, cover your eyes, and think hard enough, you can change reality to whatever you want.

Navy Dubber1 votes

i'm wondering why things hit when the visuals don't line up because when the visuals don't line up its not supposed to hit.......

Kanzler1 votes

Hitboxes. In this case, you see the spell hitbox, but you dont see the target hitbox which is why it may appear that the spell misses, but you still take damage.

That's how "League of Bullshit, How Did That Hit Me" has worked since the start.

Navy Dubber1 votes

and that's exactly why i made this bug report to try to bring attention to Mordekaiser q not working correctly. I didn't make a bug report to ask what the mechanic is that causes the bug I don't really care what the mechanic is I just want it to be fixed.

Kanzler1 votes

It's not a bug. It's how hitboxes work.

Navy Dubber1 votes

oh yes thank you i forgot when riot intentionally added the update where even when your abilities miss they still hit the enemy have a nice day i understand now

Hitboxes

Navy Dubber1 votes

its not just hit boxes the problem with this ability is it tricks you. It shows you a clear outline of where it will hit before the ability hits and then the outline it shows you isn't where it hits. this is different from say blitzcrank q because with that the ability fires and you don't know exactly where its gonna be until the range finishes. its an issue when the game tells you where a champions main ability will hit then you dodge where it tells you and it hits anyway. https://imgur.com/a/csbE94u if you look at this screenshot of the outline there's a pretty big gap between the outline and the dummy.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Nope this is as it always has been, not special at all.

You have the ability hitbox that looks like a fan going out from mordekaiser, but unlike visually its hitbox goes from each of the outer points to point rather than having some points stick out longer than the rest.......you´d draw a straight line between the points creating a fan bascially.

A fan that starts narrow but expands futher out.

Then the reason the dummy is hit is because its own hitbox is a circle around it, one that overlaps with the fan hitbox of morde´s Q, even though visually this goesnt look like the case because it kinda sits between two of the fan´s outer points inside a gap.

It is as usual, nothing to see here, carry on.

Navy Dubber1 votes

well either way its a bug if thats the case of how the ability works then either the hitbox of the ability needs to be changed or the outline showing where it will hit needs to be changed the ability isn't intended to hit you when you're outside of the outline that it shows lol

Thefrostyviking1 votes

People have been asking for hitboxes like this one to be fixed for years.

Its probably happening in the next ...3 years....if we are lucky.

Navy Dubber1 votes

probably lol i just wanted to point out that this doesn't work how its supposed to the morde rework is relatively new still so i figured maybe not too many people have yet

Navy Dubber1 votes

as far as i could tell though (i tested every champion that i could think of with an ability like this that shows an outline before the attack) mordekaiser is actually the only champion that has a problem like this obviously some hit boxes are messed up but as far as attacks that show an outline of the attack before it hits i don't think any other champions have an issue like this

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Sion has the exact same thing going on, as has lux, Chogath, amumu and a heap of others.

Navy Dubber1 votes

if you could show some proof or link me to some because i actually tested chogath and sion and didn't find the same problem with either of their abilities and amumu and lux don't have abilities that show an outline of the ability before it hits so i'm not sure why you included them

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Clearly you havent tested enough, nor bothered to even read up on the boards.

https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/bug-report/3lIblx4e-gameplay-sion-q-bug

Found this literally instantly by typing "sion Q bug" in the boards search bar.

And both Lux E and amumu R have circle shapes that share the same issue, it doesnt look like stuff will hit but if the circle on the ground around your champ overlaps with the spell hitbox then it does, even if it looks absurd.

And again, its not a bug, its as it has been for ages and its not something that will be fixed anytime soon if going by how long people have been asking for fixes already.

Hells the post i linked is even 3 years old already, time flies.

Navy Dubber1 votes

a 3 year old video isn't proof that a bug still exists today that bug could've easily been fixed between now and 3 years ago lol especially when i tried to test it myself and couldn't recreate it whereas i could easily recreate the Mordekaiser bug in 30 seconds. true i forgot about Lux e but Amumu r shows the outline after the ability. if its not a bug what would you call it? Because abilities hitting you when they visually miss you is clearly not an intentional feature of the game. I'm not trying to have an argument over phonetics here. Also this has been on several champions over the years been fixed its not something that's never fixed and riot just completely ignores and its definitely a new problem for Mordekaiser considering his rework was less than 2 months ago. If you want to prove that there are other champions with similar abilties that have the same issue show me recent proof that way i can at least check the patch notes and see if riot says they fixed it. When I see a video of a bug from 3 years ago that I can't recreate and can't find any videos of it happening recently the only reasonable assumption is it was patched.

Navy Dubber1 votes

also i just tried searching sion q bug as you said with a filter for posts that are only in the last year and didn't find a single post within the last year of this issue lol

Navy Dubber1 votes

trying to search for Lux e and Amumu r and can't find any posts for those in the last year either lol maybe its you that didn't do their research

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Aight i cant find the lux E bug post either, probably had some more general name, but there were plenty on her R and Q though, and her R does have indication on several of her skins.

But i digress, there is actually a easier way to explain it,especially given that target dummy hitboxes arent the same as champion ones, look at this image below.

https://imgur.com/a/XFo0gKJ

As you can see there is a circle around my brand here, any ability whose hitbox makes contact with Brand´s will count as a effective hit.

The blue arrow is just me highlighting a area that looks like it would miss brand, say a nida Q, but it will 100% hit.

That, is what i am saying is going on with the mordekaiser thing you have going on, like a shitton of other abilities its super unclear, always has been due to how the game is built.

If you want more examples of it then look at this video and there are quite a few.

Navy Dubber1 votes

That's not whats happening as I've already tested getting closer than i did with the mordekaiser ability with other champions and other abilities from the same angle and it didn't hit. I'm not sure why would suggest the issue is with the dummies hitbox when you already said the actual reason in your original comment which is that the ability fans out and you have to draw a line to get the actually range of the ability because of the gaps. This issue is where the ability hits not the champions/dummies hitbox. also I'm just gonna say it one more time claiming other abilities have the same issue without showing me any evidence of it means nothing

Navy Dubber1 votes

Here i made an example as brand and lux to show its the ability not the dummy notice in both videos the ability is practically touching the dummy and doesn't hit whereas the Mordekaiser q had a clear gap between the ability and the dummy and still hit https://imgur.com/a/NkbMGE3 https://imgur.com/a/zcBVE3N

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Like alright, the morde Q hitbox is slightly vague but its still consistent with how skillshots usually work, but what i am trying to explain ....lets go with an analogy.

The size of a hitbox around a target dummy is a circle the size of a cent, the hitbox around a champion is a dollar coin.

https://imgur.com/a/1bVLQR2

Behold my glorious paint skills and marvel.....needs to be opened in another tab though.

The white line represents where i think the actual morde Q hitbox goes, and the blue for the dummy hitbox....as you can tell the dummy one is extremely small compared to say the brand one that i showed.

Now on the same line spells in game that looks like they´d 100% certainly miss still often hit because that difference, now it doesnt work on dummies but i am very, very sure that the Sion Q thing has not been fixed in these 3 years for its not something that is easily fixed.

For the same reason lux´s R and Q are thought of as bugged.

Ashe R.

Blitz, thresh and pyke hooks, the video i linked to you.

Navy Dubber1 votes

how could the sion q bug be fixed in game but not against dummies lol that makes no sense and yes thank you you're agreeing with me that the hitbox for mordekaiser's q is bigger than the visual shows for it thats the bug i'm trying to report for which i have found no bug reports of.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

.....Havent i written it several times already=?

Target dummies, generally have way way smaller hitboxes than champions, testing with them is actually all manners of pointless or even stupid.

As for the morde Q? Its unclear if you arent used to it but that´s the only thing really.

Even if you pulled the hitbox back it would still hit a champion at the same distance, due to larger hitboxes.

Navy Dubber1 votes

testing with dummies proves the ability is bigger than the visual suggests. How could pulling the hitbox back make it hit a champion at the same distance? If anything the fact that dummies have a tiny hitbox proves how bad the abilities visual is if it could hit a dummy from that far away imagine how far you could hit a champion from

Thefrostyviking1 votes

I´d rather just adjust morde´s Q to match the hitbox, no need to just nerf him....i think.

Well the frustration of hitboxes not matching wont go away but that´s worlds away from a exclusive problem.

Navy Dubber1 votes

either way i'm not sure why you're trying to demean my bug report I didn't really come here to argue I just wanted to report a bug and hopefully have it fixed

Navy Dubber1 votes

im surprised im getting so many negative comments on this i didn't really expect to have to argue this it seemed pretty simple to me - it shows where the ability will hit + enemy not in the outline shown of where it will hit and gets hit anyway = bug whether its with the hitbox or the outline shown its a bug the ability is not intended to work this way

Dahaaka1 votes

That's bullshit, i am telling you as a mord main, hate things like that especially when it happens to me and even worse situation is that team dont care a bit, until they get hit by the same.

I also have recorded worse than that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NfQfgxbOuM

Imagine if that Q hits you when u are 100hp.

And i have SOOOO many more recorded things like this.

Navy Dubber2 votes

yea laning phase was pretty rough getting hit by a bunch of those when i dodged them lol thank you for being the first person on this post to not argue with me

Dahaaka1 votes

People are just blind and deaf to things like that, UNTIL IT HITS THEM LIKE A TRAIN, in their rank promo game. So ye, i understand you pretty well man.

I also don't understand why people refuse to understand it. If you see animation in any game, you expect to see it doing dmg or just hear the sound when one animation hits another, but instead nothing happens or vice versa animation swings in the air but it actually hits... i understand that it may be hard the coding part for the hitbox be exactly in the animation.

But god dammit this is happening for years, ridiculous montage videos of people, especially streamers, getting hit from nothing.

I can't actually count how many games i lost because of it.

Dahaaka1 votes

and those hitbox bugs happen to me like every 2nd game.
