My connection is stable but the client refuses to let me select a champion

This happens every 10 games or so. The ban phase goes smoothly, everyone up to me picks their champions and then when its finally my turn to lock in i get this stupid message saying "There was a problem selecting your champion. Please try again." and I will get this stupid message over and over again while I desperately try to lock in any champion at all.
