Hello! I am having the same problem. I am going to give you a copy of the instructions the support team gave me in a ticket. Make sure you follow them carefully.

Unfortunately, this still didn't work for me (league was cleanly reinstalled but it was somehow the old client, and I could play on it with some errors, but when I restarted it, it was the new client again and the same error is occurring). However, they said some players have fixed the issue if they do the following:

Sorry to hear about this one! We were made aware of some reports from players, and there are two workarounds which we identified, that worked in most of the cases.

First of all, the simpler one, running the game as admin didn't work, from what you said, so let's go for a clean reinstall of League:

Install Revo Uninstaller and completely remove League from your PC. Also make sure that you don't have an installation of League on other HDD drives. Get CCleaner and clean all the registries and corrupted files from your computer. Then you'll need to re-download the game from here and make sure to install it on the C:\ drive. Also make sure to run the installer with Administrator permissions. Wait for the game to patch and you should be able to run the game without any problems. Let us know how it goes please!

Hey there again!

I FIXED mine. After I got the reply from support saying there was sadly nothing they could do, I went into the hextech repair tool. Keep in mind that PRIOR to this I had followed ALL of the instructions above, and also keep in mind that when it reinstalled it worked temporarily with the old client interface and only stopped working again after restarting when the new client appeared.

Using the tool, I specifically selected "force repatch". I restarted my client (as administrator) afterwards and it finally got past the "authenticating" bar and I can play again. Maybe give this (clean reinstall, restart and force repatch) a try :)
