Bug with champion portrait targetting

Today I noticed that you could now ping your champion portrait and it would state whether you are alive or dead, similar to pinging your health and whatnot. I believe that as an unintended side effect, now, (like with targeting allies for shen ults) you can hover your cursor over your own champion portrait, resulting in you targeting the spell on your spot, resulting in potentially mis-aimed skill shots/flashes. If anyone knows if this has been a thing for a long time and is actually an intended feature I just haven't run into before, please let me know!
