Vi Ult cancelled by Yi Alpha Strike: Vi starts ult with red line tracking toward Yi. Yi casts alpha strike. Vi ult stops and the cooldown is not refunded.

This is intended, as Yi's Alpha Strike makes him untargetable. Works the same for Fizz, Vlad Q, Bard ult, Zhonya's, anything that makes you untargetable works against her ult.

not refunding the cooldown is a bug. an ult can't get trumped by a regular ability. that isn't how the game works.

The cooldown should be refunding though. It happens with other untargettables like that I'm pretty sure, happens with Caitlyn ult when they die before she shoots, pretty sure in the rare instance something dies before Cho's ult damage goes in(which is pretty fast so its rare), the cooldown will go to like 5 seconds, and yeah. For the most part it resets the cooldown on ultimates when interrupted somehow.

Well we have cases like a Zed ult, which you can negate and put on CD with an untargetable, same with Nocturne, Veigar, Brand, probably more that I'm not thinking of offhand. Another side of it is that you're also readily able to negate any other form of skillshot ult or CC or any of that in these same ways, so they likely make it the same for targeted as a matter of balancing it out. As Yi I know I've saved myself from things like Malphite and Nami ults as well as Vi or Zed ults, which are easier to start/get off than the others already. It's hard to justify making it work differently for a clickcast champion since they've already got a technically increased power in that they just need to be in range for their skill to work effectively compared to someone else who, whilst having a stronger attack, is a skillshot that can be dodged very much the same way. I looked into Caitlyn and the reason it doesn't go on CD is because it's specifically made that way. It's a channeled spell that only goes on CD after the channel is completed. So if you Zhonya/otherwise go untargetable while she's channeling, it goes on CD. However, if you manage to do it as she shoots, then you negate it and also manage to get it on CD.
