Malzahar blue buff bug

Recently in a game with my friend who is playing Malzahar and was playing Kindred jungle. I went to give him blue buff and he got the kill gold but we noticed his voidling got the killing blow on the blue buff, but he didn't actually receive the blue buff, which is pretty weird Thought I'd report this here

edit: I didn't get the blue buff either and no one else was near it when it died
