FIX for scaling problems High Resolution Monitors (HiDpi) (2k-4k displays) [FIX]

I have a very easy and PERMANENT fix for this problem in all games/apps if you're running windows 10 (Not sure if it works on windows 8). This solution will scale all of your apps and text sizes to a standard 1080p display scale, without making your screen blurry or lower DPI, so I recommend this for all users with 2k to 4k displays until better support is given for us high resolution users! This will fix absolutely all scaling issues in League of Legends as well.

You right click on your desktop, and go to "display settings". Where it says “Change the size of text, apps, and other items”, on the right of it there will be a percentage. Note this percentage down for later, as this is what you will use to retain your high resolution with 1080p scaling.

Now, click on "advanced display settings". Then click on "Advanced sizing of text and other items". This will open a new window, and on this window click the "Set a custom scaling level" option. Change the scaling from whatever yours is to 100% (You will NOT need to change this back, as it is a permanent fix, but if you’d like, you can remember the percentage here in case something goes wrong. ).

You will then be asked to log out to make changes after clicking apply. Relog, and you should see that everything on your desktop looks extremely small, but DON’T WORRY! Go back to display settings, and from here where it says “Change the size of text, apps, and other items”, change the slider to the percentage you noted down in the beginning.

Relog once more, and there you have it! Your desktop and everything will look the same as before, but all of your scaling issues will be solved forever!

Comment if you have any questions or concerns, and I’m glad to help!

I did not think this would do anything, and I was right. It didn't.

I followed this, but I couldn't complete the last step - it wouldn't let me make any more changes while a custom setting had been applied.

Trying to understand, how this issue is not yet fixed. When you have both indie games, and full fledged AAA games that have this option for scaling the UI.

This fixes the font sizes for me, but does nothing for minion health bars and the size of my in-game cursor.

In other words, it doesn't fix the two biggest issues with 4K.

I know this is a an old post but it seems like we cant change the text, apps, and other items after a custom setting was set. I want to know if i did anything wrong as this is quite annoying.

This worked for me. I am trying to understand why it did.

To summarize:

  • Right click the desktop
  • Choose Display Settings
  • On the window that pops up, be sure to choose the little rectangle representing your 4K monitor.
  • The last text at the bottom is "Advanced display settings", click that
  • In the window that replaces display settings, the second line of text from the bottom says "Advanced sizing of text and other items". Click that.
  • A new window opens. In the main paragraph of text is a link that says "set a custom scaling level" in blue. Click that.
  • This opens another, smaller window that has a dropdown menu with percentages. Set that to 100%

I didn't have to do any of the other stuff he said. That fixed it.

I'm not clear on what that custom sizing option does that's different than the original sizing slider.

Once this was done, the text, and maybe another element or two, in League matches was the correct size again. Like I said, I don't understand what differentiates this from the slider on the first display settings page, but this one fixed the problem, the first one did not.

[EDIT] I think I figured out why this works. The Advanced text scaling dropdown overrides the default Windows automatic scaling, while the basic slider on the first settings page did not.

The best thing to do is whenever you play league, change your display setting to 1920 x 1080 and do the same in game in order to play under the scaling you're used to
