LoL 5.9 Client doesn't work in Windows 10 Build 10122

EDIT: A fix has been found! In Properties > Compatibility, check "Disable Display Scaling on high DPI settings", "Run as administrator", and then uncheck compatibility mode.

I've been running Windows 10 since I built my new computer in January (didn't have many other operating system options at the time) and today it automatically updated while I was gone. Since Windows 10 updates tend to have problems with League, I decided to load it up and check if everything was working before trying to play Ranked or something (I learned my lesson from the last time W10 had an issue with League).

I loaded up the client and the usual update check screen popped up, with the free week rotation and news and stuff. I hit play, and when the client reappeared the body was completely black, with the Bard login music playing. UI buttons and everything seemed to function properly when found, and I was even able to log in successfully, but the window was still completely black. The only things I could get to show up were mouseover text on buttons/icons (like RP, or the shop), as well as the information that pops up when you mouse over someone in your friend list.

Computer build: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Intel Pentium CPU G3258 @3.20 GHz 4GB of DDR3 RAM Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview: Build 10122 Can't recall/find the motherboard off the top of my head, but if it's relevant I can post that information as well.

Not much else to say, except that I guess I'm not going to be playing until either Windows or Riot finds a fix for this problem. A quick search on Google, these boards and Reddit suggests that nobody else has run into this problem yet, although I'm not completely surprised considering the update is one day old.

nothing above worked for me but i managed it anyway Just go right click on the leauge shortcut - settings - compatibility - then disable the compatibilitymodus because widows 10 dosnt exist there for now. worked for me!! hope it helps :D

Hi ! I have the same problem since windows decided to crash and start automatically its update yesterday : The full laucher is completely black but works ! I look like a mole trying to play now --'... Windows 10 is a good OS, maybe better than windows 8, and the updates are always better than the last but this time, this update sucks ! I know this is a preview version, I know that's my problem if is doesn't work but still... I would have a solution for this \o/

New edit : Hi guys ! I have a simple solution ! I mean, it works for me, hope it will work for you, but I'm sorry I'm not sure about how to say that in english, so I'll write the solution in french, hope you could translate : Enfait, il faut lancer l'utilitaire de résolution de problèmes de compatibilité et cocher la case : "Le programme rencontre des problèmes d'affichage". Windows changera automatiquement les paramètres et vous demandera de tester le programme. Normalement, la page de connexion avec Bard s'affiche correctement =).

Thanks, it worked ! For the non-french speaker out there, right click on the launcher shortcut, go to property, compatibility, and check the box about disabling scaling for high resolution, as in the pic attached.

I have this problem too but this fix doesn't seem to work for me =\ Did you do anything else in addition to this to get League to display correctly? Also, I noticed that when I launch PBE, it works fine without having to enable any compatibility settings. I also expected this issue to be rectified with 5.10 today but the issue is still here!

Well, disabling the display drivers before starting league of legends solves the problem for me. After I login, I can reenable the display drivers, and can play LoL like usual. You can disable display drivers under "Device Manager". Kind Regards, Shortknoffli

Hi Dettadeus!

Same problem here, Windows 10 too. If it helps, you can actually play since the one thing that its not working is the launcher, but as you can guess is kind of difficult to enter a game... but possible! So try to initiate a game without seeing anything on the launcher (I did it, so it can be done :)), boot to windows 8.1/7 to play, or just wait for a fix!

Thought this might be the case but I thought it was too much trouble to test it with a bots game or something. Good to know.

I haven't updated to 10122 yet, however I've had black window issues in previous win10 builds - doing a "repair" in the launcher fixed it for me. Not sure why some files would get corrupted / deleted but it does seem to be something like that.

Have you tried that already?

Maybe you should dual boot win7 so you're not constantly being a guinea pig.

to those coming in from the fresh windows 10 upgrade, you **WILL ** have to repair or reinstall your league client, the new virtual desktop feature is to blame, league is not designed for this option and ever since the early developer build it has had these issues.

First problem I had was after I clicked launch nothing would happen. So I opened properties and put as run as admin , disable display scaling on high DPI settings and windows 7 compatibility mode. Still didn't work so reinstalled. This time black screen. When I went into settings the admin and all were still there. Took off windows 7 compatibility mode and kept other two on and it works.

I have similar but seem kinda different as I click launch the login screen is black tried clicking without seeing and writing the password but doesn't seem to work its was work fine yesterday does anyone have this?

Hey guys, don't know if this helps but I've been facing the same problem as you guys have. I've gone through every possible complex solution and none of them work. So I decided to delve into the problem by myself. I started off uninstalling the game and deleting the installer. I then downloaded the newly released installer for the Pre-6 patch and went through the whole setup. Here's where things got different for me... As my laptop was a new model that immediately started off with the Windows 10 OS, I knew it would have problems and apparently, my solution was something I passed by everytime

The fix posted in OP also seems to work on Windows 10 Build 14367 with LoL patch 6.12 for any Windows Insider tester's here.
