Galio shield doesn't proc Athene's, other shield proc items
pretty much as I said. Doesn't proc heal from Athene's or move speed buff from Ardent Censer. makes it impossible to build as mage support

The spell description calls it a "shield", but for all intents and purposes it is not a real shield, just an MR/Armor buff. Just don't get Athene's or Ardent Censer with him (you can still proc them with FotM/Locket but that's a shitty alternative).
This is because Galio's "shield" is not actually a shield. Yes, the tool tip is misleading as it does say "Galio shields an ally," but it is technically not a shield, it's a buff that grants armor and magic resistance.
EDIT: I just checked, and the in game tool tip no longer describe Galio's W as a shield. It says that Galio protects a friendly champion. However, the ability description in the client while checking his champion info still says 'shields.'
