i had the same problem with the patch 5.5 and now today i loaded the patch 5.6 and after the patching finished i played 1 game.And after some 4 or 5 hrs after when i get to the patcher it just gets stuck at 33% and starts scanning files like crazy Riot pls help me with this
same here, still scanning files (5000file scanning) and still in 33% , so wtf
To fix it I had to uninstall and reinstall :/
This has happened to my client every time League patches. If you hit the question mark in the top-right, it gives you an option to repair the client. It takes a while 15 minutes-half an hour, but it's faster than doing a clean re-install. But yeah, it sucks, I've tried every fix on the Riot website and no-luck. But I guess a temporary fix is better than nothing at all.

What steps have you taken to fix the problem? Have you tried repairing the patcher? The more information you give on the issue, the faster Rito can fix the problem.
I had the same problem and every time it's scanning files, it keeps saying that there was a error. I repaired it at around 3 to four times and went back to the LoL client to make it patch for around 6 times. Right now I'm repairing it again on administrator. I also went administrator mode to let the patch do it's thing but that didn't work either.
What I used for the fix in previous patches was (on mac) opening up Activity Monitor and finding the UserKernel, then quitting that. It would take a couple seconds, then load normally. This patch doesn't seem to accept that fix, at least for me, so you should try it anyways just in case.
This happened a while back for me, can't remember the fix sorry.
