Newest patch (5.8) not working

Wellll.... Thank you for taking your time to read this and hopefully fix my problem. I am using an early 2008 macbook with all original specs to run league. I have been trying to update LoL for the past few days. starting with the original client (app) that i was using. It stopped at the 2/2 at 81% with 275 mb left in the update. It just froze. it continued to do so for the night and i thought nothing of it. Then I tried going to a friends house with better wifi (thinking that it was my sloppy connection). It did the same thing, stopping at 275 MB. I then went on to redownload the app.... Still no prevail.... im currently looking at the screen as it sits, 0 kb/s at 275 mb.

Please help.................
