Clicking ward skin button led to server disconnect

I was in the champion select screen and clicked the new ward skin icon. When I did, I immediately lost connection to the LoL server as ended up timing out for champion select and had to go through the extra 5 minute wait. Once I was kicked for not selecting, I was still active in the client with a fine internet connection. I also verified my internet connectivity via browser.
