Lee Sin wardjump bugged with smite item ?

If I want to wardjump with Lee Sin while using the Smite item as a ward, I just use my W on myself without moving. After a few seconds I can use W normally on the ward. It works with the trinket ward normally tho. Is that a bug or intended ? I don't play Lee that often so don't judge me ! :D
