Cannot reconnect to a game after computer restart

I had a system error where all keyboard inputs rendered no response from my computer other than a pinging sound, so I had to end up restarting my computer to fix it due to the fact that I wasn't able to alt+tab. If you look it says that I'm not even in game on my status, even though my friends(Tigermama gemgem and Nicosrevenge) whom I was queued with, are still in game and I have a "Game is still in progress" screen. The only thing I can think of to fix this would be to update the older client, but by that time, the game would be over. Any ideas as to what caused it, and any ideas as to what I can do if it happens again i the future?
