When entering champ select, my screen went completely black. I tried to "x" out and got the warning about leaving so I decided to see if it would load. After about a minute i was returned to the LoL client home screen, received a warning message about que dodging and received the 5 minute re-que penalty. This is the first time this has happened. I am worried that this will negatively impact my account if it reoccurs.
THIS! I had this exact same thing happen to me for the first time just now.
I had the screen come up like it was going into champion select but the league screen was blacked out. I even clicked on my friends list sidebar.
I had never encountered this glitch before and tried clicking on everything I could to make it stop.
Ended up backing out of the client entirely and was smacked with a "Because Schwartzekatze abandoned a recent game during champion selection, your team is unable to join the queue" for fifteen minutes.
It seems to be a cumulative penalty for what amounts to a technnical glitch.
Now, I don't back out of champion select on a regular basis and only do when a technical problem has presented itself. This is one of those cases.

update: tried again after time penalty expired and is now working properly again.
Open the League folder under Applications Open Package Contents Contents LoL Config Open the file Game.cfg with textEdit Go under General and change WindowMode from 0 to 1
This will change you from Fullscreen to Windowed mode 0=Fullscreen 1=Windowed 2=(I think) Borderless
