[CRASH] Failed to connect, and retrying doesn't work.

Every so often, maybe one in a fifty or sixty games, I'll get this glitch/bug/crash, in which the game starts to load, fails to connect, and crashes. Repeated attempts to reconnect fail, always with the same popup window and crash. Logging out and in, retrying, cancelling and attempting to reconnect all leave me unable to join the game.

Here's the important information to isolate this bug from general "lag/poor connection/bad internet/bad computer/bad firewall settings" discussions:

  1. No settings or conditions have changed from the previous game(s) I have played in which I do not experience this crash.
  2. I have only had this crash happen subsequent to a game in which I had no lag/connectivity issues, and it does not recur in subsequent games.
  3. I generally do not have connectivity issues, and even with poor latency or lag during connection, repeated attempts should eventually lead to a successful ping and connection. However, this bug always results in the same inability to connect to the server.

Ultimately, I'm just confused/disappointed/feeling punished for something out of my control. I don't know if these bugs are something of which Riot is aware, particularly with regard to LeaverBuster "busting" players who experience this bug. I don't know if this is something that is isolate to my system, or if this is a larger bug (haven't seen any reports suggesting it). I also don't know how to debug the problem, or if there really is even a problem that I can actively prevent, as my settings do not change from when I have problem free games before or after, save that jungle Taric that managed to come out of laning phase 3/0/2 on the enemy team. However, losing games/LP is a punishment for not being able to actively participate in a game to which you've failed to connect (and potentially even being punished by the LeaverBuster system), even though I shouldn't be punished for a random glitch in hardware or code, if that's the root cause of this bug, especially since this connection issue seems, at best, random, sporadic, and something that only reoccurs at a low rate of probability.

What is actually causing it? Do other people experience this bug? What solution(s) exist? When will I stop losing LP for this? If you're a reader, please reply to the poll/thread to help me move forward with fixing this problem. Okay?Rammus

Experiencing this crap right now not able to get into the game i just joined now ill get a freaking penalty for something thats not my fault thanks roit for this lovely problem

This is so annoying

sometimes it would say that left a match i have to go in a 5 min q like really? i have good internet my ping is always a 70 sometimes when i go into champ select it just exits out saying something about my connection

This has been happening to me every single game I have tried to join for the past three days. It doesn't happen on and off, this happens every time the game goes to a loading screen. Pretty frustrating.

I'd wager this is ultimately a networking issue with the route from us to riots servers.

I am curious, OP what is your geographical location (e.g. us: eastern, central, western, etc). I am on US east cost myself and get this occasionally. Extremely annoying.

Very agitating. Seems like the old d/c bug come back to haunt us again with the most recent patch.

Ever since this patch it has literally happened to me every game I've played. Some of the games I couldn't connect at all and the game was over when I tried to rejoin. No doubt I was reported by my team and the enemy team for this and also picked up by Leaverbuster. I can completely understand why I could have been reported and also understand the frustration my team must have been going through with a member down.

Riot can you please look into this problem please as it is clearly unplayable for some players and creating an all round bad experience for those involved.

Yeah, it happens to me almost every day.

I found that if you logged off and logged back on it would fix it and you could enter the game.

It only happens to me when I disconnect and reconnect to the servers while in the client, and then start a game. Using my system I've been able to get back into my games 100% of the time.

Happens MAYBE 1 in 30 games but when I see this screen I just wasted 4 other people's time in addition to my own. It's a fluke instance when it happens and it doesnt happen enough to stop me from playing this game. OH but wait... LeaverBuster will make sure to punish me. After sending a ticket in to Riot, PLEADING for them to fix this issue and LeaverBuster status I got this response:

Use Custom games (without other players) or Tutorial games to test your stability until you are confident your issue is resolved; this will not only prevent possible suspensions, but also help other players avoid an unfavorable game due to possible crashes.

After sending all of the information requested... what did I receive back? Nothing. Actually correction; I received a "satisfaction survey" after 5 days. Not so sure they want my response for that...

Yeah I'm getting ALOT of this right now, just got a low priority queue for it too.

Is this an east coast thing? I'm from Kentucky and seen a couple of people from here to ohio having the problem

Im having the exact same problem, ive tried redownloading client, repairing, with and without firewall up. Pinging packets at 55, hard wired, im Kentucky, not quite ohio but close, maybe east coast is having problems? not sure... kind of annoying.

Hi! I have a question for people who have this bug occur to them. Are you que'd up with anyone when this is happening? I've noticed this bug seems to only happen when I'm in a party and this is just speculation, but I believe it occurs more frequently depending on the amount of people in your party.

Question: are you on a wireless connection? Packets are more immediately lost due to the transmission protocol of wireless packets. Secondly, if you're running a firewall try turning it off, because it CAN interfere with a connection. Other than that, it's probably just a client bug that we have to deal with.
