Riven unable to use her shield

I was playing an aram as riven (ignore clarity, didn't have time to change sums after trading). I died and when I respawned I couldn't use my shield. The ability was darkened but wasn't on CD and I wasn't CC'd. I couldn't use my shield until I used my Q then everything went back to normal.
