I can't invite my plat 2 friend into my ranked game and I was diamond 5 before reset

I was trying to invite my friend into my lobby so that we can do our placements together. He was platinum 2 before the reset and I was diamond 5. I tried inviting him to the game but it was grayed out and read: "ineligible duo partner". I then tried inviting him by clicking on the actual invite button with the little plus sign. The plus sign was also grayed out and read: "Please invite a player who is between platinum and master tier." When he tried to invite me it said that he should invite a player "between bronze and gold" and he was platinum 2! Is this just a bug or is there a reason behind this. Thanks to anyone who can help me with this.

it's not based on pre-season, but on Season Ending rankings from my understanding. So if he was Gold, and you were Diamond at the end of the season, won't be able to play together.

I'm getting the same error. Was D4 end of season, D4 end of preseason. Can only duo with bronze-gold but getting matched against D5-D3 from last season. Did your friends lose rewards? I didn't get rewards and wondering if that is the reason for the bug.
