Crashes Affecting Mac Users in 5.14

Hi everyone,

We're currently looking into an issue that's causing crashes for Mac users with the 5.14 release. In order to get a better idea of who is being affected and how the issue is manifesting, we're asking for players who began experiencing this issue with the new release to provide the following information (thanks to those who have already provided this info, it helps us out a ton!):

  • OSX Version
  • CPU
  • GPU
  • Players who experience this are also reporting issues with the in-game item shop's textures. If you're seeing either of these problems, could you clarify whether you're experiencing shop texture issues, crashes, or both?

Additionally, if you've seen this issue occur specifically in a ranked game with the old HUD, that'd be good to have insight on. Once more I'm very sorry for any trouble that this may cause!

[UPDATE}: We have what we believe to be a fix for both the red textures in the shop and the in-game crashing, so if you're still seeing this issue after updating your client, please let us know and we'll continue to work on getting you back in the game.

OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.3

Macbook (13-inch Mid 2010) Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Graphic NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB

I have the crashing and red shop interface problems.

Edit: I updated my version to 10.10.4 and still have the same problems, however while before the crashes were always around the 5-8 minute mark, it started crashing at around the 2-3 minute mark after the software update. But this might not mean anything.

Edit: I tried another custom today and everything is white with black patches I can see the HUD and the minions health bars, with random faded parts of the HUD in random places on the screen, this happened suddenly at about 1.45 on the clock. I tried to keep playing but it crashed as soon as I Q'd the minion wave as Katarina. I will see if I can get a screenshot.

Edit: I can't recreate the issue of the white background, but on the bright side I got bored enough to try Ranked and it worked!

Please riot we're aware your 'looking into it' but can we please have an update of what is going on. we haven't heard anything from you guys for about 15 hours!

So since this is going on I haven't played league since the new patch, is it still possible to get the Twisted Fate and/or Graves icon for act I? Would kinda suck if Mac users missed out because of this bug.

I can understand having a technical issue with the game, and I can understand letting a small bug with a champion slip through PBE, but what I can't understand is how a game breaking bug for a large population of players slipped through a month of PBE testing, undoubtedly caused by the changes to the HUD (which, by the way, I find myself to be one of the only people predominantly in favour of the HUD changes). And I'm sure the technical support team is working hard at a fix, but the lack off communication is incredibly infuriating given that this affects such a large portion of the community. There's been no correspondence for over 24 hours from a riot employee on this thread, there's been no discussion of compensation for those that have earned a low priority queue status for their troubles (like myself), and there isn't even a notification in game, or a ranked disabled or anything. Hell, you can disable Darius when he has a small bug, and I'm sure you would've disabled ranked if anyone over level 27 played Darius, but mac users can't even get a notification that if they attempt to play this game, they'll crash, get flamed by their teammates and opponents alike, and receive a low priority queue status.

Though I doubt how much this information really helps given that this seems to be an issue affecting all Macs, here are my specs: OSX 10.9.5 Macbook Pro 2009 15inch Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 And I am experiencing shop texture problems, and crashes 2 to 4 times a game, occasionally having to restart my computer entirely.

this new patch has, on mac, the following bug :

  1. random freeze
  2. freeze when you click " to many times" on a object in the shop
  3. freeze on double clicking tower
  4. the shop has a red color behind the object lists which makes hard to see and especially read , the right arrow to scroll the object orizontally it is not there ( if you lower the resolution it show up)
  5. overall performance (in aram , didn't check SR) got worst (i can't say exactly how much since the hud doesn't show anymore the fps )
  6. opening the "detailed" stats make the fps drops ( drastically in my case with a 4years old macbook pro)

overall impression on this? despite it is graphically pleasant , i find it not well organized and less helpful then the old one , all information are on the right bottom corner of the screen ( which in some cases can be a good thing to force people looking at the minimap.) , when with the older one the information where "spreaded" all over the screen granting you a better general vision of the stats ,kda finally they toke away the "detailed information window" , and replace it with a small slide that doesn't give as detailed information as before .

greets DO UPDATE i checked the na forum and i read thousands of post of complain , so for what i understood the issue is related to :

  • mac having nvidia graphic
  • most of the people are having version before the 10.10
  • after few experiment i think it is connected to the (usual problem on unix-bsd system) full screen mode ( it crashed also in windowed mode but much less apparently)
  • if you play a custom game and stay in base all the time nothing happens , it seems to me that it is related to icon ( sometimes it crashed like i couldn't see the anything expect the helot bars and instead of the map i would have seen some char icon extended on all the screen ,pretty creepy) and animations on the icon , so cd animation , cc animation on the icon .

I don't think anyone here is actually appreciating the difficulty in squishing a bug like this, of course they are working on the bug, they have a whole team of technicians dedicated to this area, I would imagine we will be told as soon as they have fixed it, what would be the point in them updating us to tell us they hadn't fixed it? Just chill and play another game in the mean time because moaning on here isn't going to change anything.

NEWS:

I just opened the patcher and it did a tiny update. I then played a custom game lasting about 30 minutes and it didn't crash! No red shop or anything else that's been reported. Without jinxing it, I think they might have fixed it.

I've got the crashing and the red interface problems with the shop in every game. I wasn't doing anything particular when the crashes occur so I guess it has nothing to do with what you do BUT my crashes usually occured after minute 13-15. Sometimes BugSplat activated and I could reconnect but sometimes my screen just froze and all I could do is moving my mouse. The bug occured on Summoners Rift and Butchers Bridge (visual and crash).

I'm looking forward to Riot fixing this problem because I don't want to miss out this event. GJ you guys at Riot I really like the new HUD and the whole event.

Edit: Could you please make an announcement in the client with the link to this thread, because a) not everybody has found it yet and b) the more you know about the problem the faster you can fix it and c) the people don't go into hopeless games and maybe get a LeaverBuster.

Experiencing both shop texture issues and crashes (frequent). Have not tried a ranked game, game crashed too much in customs. I'm now also experiencing this

i haven't been able to play sine July 21st 2015 the rough release date of patch 5.14 im running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 on a late 2013 27-inch imac a 3.4 GHz intel core i5 processor, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2048 MB Graphics. i can log in fine and start a game get through champ select but as soon as i begin to load i see the background the boarder around that champion profiles which are empty no ping information or % loaded amounts are shown then after 5-10 seconds it closes and get a crash notification i have tried a repair and 2 reinstall. is the issue still around for other players or is this something on my end ?

I'm currently experiencing the red interface problem in the shop as well as crashing. I get the bugsplat notification at random intervals throughout the game ranging from every 30 seconds to every 2-3 minutes. I'm also experiencing a visual bug with weird blocking in the middle of the map. I attached some screenshot to hopefully make it more clear.

It's not just MAC users man. It's PC too. I don't understand why you're only focusing on MAC user crashes. I have a PC, and it crashes me the same as the Macs. I posted my specs in another thread earlier. If you read the threads, you will see other PC users experiencing it just as much as MAC users.

I'm wondering did you ever try this patch on mac before release it? If you try why did release it because it's not working obviously. If you didn't try why ? your official web site says game can run on mac but it is not.

Why do you say anything since +20 hours hundred people wait some explanation from you.

I'm not on Yosemite yet (haven't upgraded)

I have been crashing on Butcher's Bridge and Summoner's Rift. Also, my shop has the random red boxes (I actually didn't know that was an issue 'till I came here haha...was wondering why they were randomly red XD)

I have been placed in a lower priority queue for five games because of YOUR problem riot. I understand this punishment isn't that big of a deal, but any punishment for something that is not at all my doing is too strict. Please fix this problem and lift the mac users leave busters.

System: OSX Yosemite 10.10.4 Mid-2009 MBP 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 8 GB RAM Nvidia GeForce 9600M Gt 256 Mb

Problem:

  • Crashes frequently in-game. No discernible pattern or regular frequency. Crashes while playing full-screen causes everything to freeze (ambient audio still plays) and requires manual system reboot. Can't force-quit, CMD-Tab, etc. Crashes while playing windowed mode shut down the game window and bring of the client with the reconnect window displayed, along with a bug-splat. Full functionality of system is restored once game window closes.
  • Red square over item icons in shop. Only exception are the item icons in the recipe section of the shop.

Reproduction: Haven't tried intentionally reproducing the crash, mostly due to the inconsistency. There seems to be no que or cause. I've played both a normal game and a custom game.

Besides the crashing and red shop windows, gameplay is smooth and responsive.

I can't believe the PBE or internal play tests didn't find this before live release. Is no one at Riot or on PBE playing on Macs? Everything was silky smooth before this update, so what changed? Could the HUD update be responsible?

And is there anyone out there on a Mac that ISN'T having this issue?

The shop has a translucent red background, that makes it hard to see the items in the shop (I'm still able to buy them though). ±5 minutes into the game my computer freezes. I can't force the game to quit, move my mouse or anything. I have to restart the entire computer and reconnect to the game. I've tried playing both ARAM and Normals on Summoners, but it's the same on both.

Well, now the shop is fixed for me and it doesn't crash during the game. But the client crashes after champion select, the game never opens, I restart the client and click reconnect and then it keeps telling me there's something wrong with my internet connection until I click it like 5 times and then it works. But by that time it's like the 4th minute of the game. And before you ask, there's nothing wrong with my connection, I've run tests, I have a low ping and no packet losses and I DID try repairing the client, I even reinstalled the game, didn't work. Rito please...
