Kalista Loses Attack Speed With Runaan's Hurricane

Jonsy··59 votes·14,643 views

I was fooling around with full attack speed Kalista putting 50 stacks on dragon when I realized that when you attack multiple enemies with Runaan's it attacks slower than if you were attacking a single target. It does not show the difference in the tooltip but just watch and it is pretty obvious. Watch the video as I attack blue buff. I start by attacking all three then when the two small ones die my attack speed shoots up while attacking a single target. This happens with all camps that have multiple monsters. This seems to happen at all attack speeds but is most noticeable at max attack speed (2.5 attacks per second) I don't believe you are suppose to lose attack speed while using Runaan's passive unless there is something I have missed.

***I retested using Runaan's + BOTRK + Berserker Grieves (a common build) which gives 2.04 Attack per second without critting for the extra attack speed at level 18. I overlapped two videos to get exact measurement. Attacking multiple targets (blue buff) got 6 auto's off in 3 seconds and while attacking single target (gromp) got off 7 autos in the exact amount of time.

Sorry for terrible quality in video my gtx 970 is getting repaired, go go intel graphics.

Kalista made about 9-10 attacks in 5 seconds when attacking multiple targets. She made about 13 attacks in 5 seconds when only attacking the blue golem

edit: video was updated and my comment is no longer relevant.

It is because of her fast auto attacks (the time from when she starts winding up until it hits them). The bolts from Runaans are slower and it will lock you out from further auto attacks until all bolts hit their targets. Same exact thing happens on thresh.

So now we need to know if this is intended or not.

Narasimha1 votes

Its not a bug, its just a limitation based on how it works. There is literally nothing you can do about it other than making Runaan's bolts go faster.

FanofFluttershy1 votes

Maybe the projectile speed of Runaan bolts can be kept the same as it is now, but Runaan can be made fire a second projectile BEFORE the first one has hit its mark. That is, if your attack speed is faster than the time it takes for a Runaan bolt to travel from you to target the second Runaan projectile can fire on your second basic attack even if the first Runaan projectile has not yet collided with anything yet.

Cerbearus1 votes

Not exactly intended, but Riot hasn't really said anything about it and it has gotten plenty of mentions since Thresh came out. I think all they would have to do is increase missile speed on Runaan's to fix it.

Upvoted, i noticed this on more than just kalista a long time ago but never took the time to post about it. Once you get to the higher speed tiers about 1.9 or above your speed actually slows down to match the hurricanes extra bolt's animation drastically cutting your speed.

Exactly.

cool who cares shes broken as fuck anyway

Cool, glad you can't play against this champion. I'm gonna go and complain about Zed or Katarina now, if you don't mind.

Lytebulb2 votes

i think its the animation thing that makes it like that. like when people stutter step/orb walk to cancel the animation to auto faster.

But I was standing still the entire time. Just watch the damage counter how slow it is before and how fast it is after, it is very clear that there is a difference in attack speed depending on multiple targets or not I tested it quite a few times. Create custom and try it you will see.

That's what I'm saying. There's more of an animation when attacking multiple targets. This causes slower attack speed.

Thresh has also this bug.

And thresh have another big problem : orbewalking (attack then move) at 2.5attack speed. i heard thresh attack speed orbewlking only benefit from 25% of total A.S instead of 100%. Please fix it, it litterally make thresh unplayable with attack speed build.

Auryiel3 votes

That's because they purposefully don't want you to build AS on Thresh. That's not a bug

Jonsy2 votes

I don't think people fully understand how much this hurts kalista. With full build you will generally have around 2.0 attack speed with critting masteries and such depending on build. By my counting there were 3 extra auto attacks on a single target within 5 seconds. Which would mean 1 - 2 extra auto attacks being missed out on in normal play which with kalista rend is actually quite a bit of damage. Also the general speed that those autos are being thrown is slower meaning the second auto is being affected immediately. Think about how many times you have died because other champion attack animation was simply faster than yours.

But I just assumed people built hurricane on Kalista so that her E would constantly reset every time she used it because she'd probably kill a minion.

Worre2 votes

Decided to test this on Ashe, I didn't get the same results in one game. The attack speed was same before and after smaller creeps died.

edit: going to try this on other champions later.

Jonsy2 votes

I already tested jinx and it didn't happen

good

It is not a limitation based on the bolt speed guys, watch the second video. The bolts hit first the first 3 times and yet still shooting slower than when hitting gromp by himself. It is something within the kalista passives this does not happen on other adc making it a bug.

Hello I am Bird1 votes

Took 10 seconds with the blue guys Took 5 just the big guy What a waste of 5 minutes of my life xD but still, cool find doe

I think its more a cool bug than anything else, I wonder if any other ADC gets caught by this?

Submit a bug report, It can be repeated.

They will fix it at some point.

Now I wonder if this is the same with all champions...

MontiR1 votes

I counted 10 attacks in 5 seconds and then once it was just on the blue counted 10 attacks in 4 seconds. She goes from 2 attack speed to 2.5 attack speed once the small creeps are dead.

Call Me Khal1 votes

What I'm seeing here is that Kalista has to wait for the bolts from Runaans to hit in order to continue AAing. I'd imagine that if the mini blue monsters were in the same spot as blue, the bolts would hit their target quicker.

Jonsy1 votes

Nope, I retested it and made a new video with two videos side by side and it shows attacking a single target is faster even with the small blue minions in front of the large one.

Salidfingers1 votes

I thought this was already common knowledge, then again i got this information from REDDIT a while back.

Hurricane is just a bad item.

Remember to make hurricane effective you need to hit multiple targets and to hit multiple targets you are more likely to put your self in a vary bad position most games.

Celeste Benal1 votes

Agreed. Clear difference. 70% AS is 70% AS. It should not matter what you are attacking. If the bolt animation is slowing down your AS, then it needs to be fixed. Obvious bug is obvious. Why Riot no fix? Guess they just don't care that their game is so obviously bugged.

fluxanna1 votes

Could it be, this is speculation, that there can't be more than two bolts per champion at any time? Maybe you need to wait for the bolts to hit.

SlickLiq1 votes

i was really hoping for a fix (increasing the bolt speed or something) with the new patch but still nothing changed....

SlickLiq1 votes

I dont understand why Riot won't fix this. The prove is there and over 4500 people saw it. This bug kills her potential..... DO SOMETHING
