Cleanse (not sure if bug)

I was recently playing a match against Malzahar and thought that Cleanse might have been a good pick. I soon realized it wasn't, because it didn't clear his Malefic Visions or his ultimate. I'm not sure if this is a bug or intentional, but I thought it would be worth mentioning.
