spectator mode doesn't work

every time i try to spectate a game off of friends or off of the "recommended games" it just closes the client and when i restart the client it doesn't give me a reconnect to game option. spectator was working fine yesterday (11-17) but today it just closes the client (11-18). any help would be greatly appreciated. all other modes work fine.

I'm not sure if it's related at all but I noticed spec mode isn't saving on LoL replay anymore (ever since 4.20 patch on PBE) and now that the live client is all patched to 4.20 it's bugged on that aswell now.
