Unique Active - Crescent

While I was playing a game of League of Legends (Normal Draft), I (Varus) was walking through the enemy jungle after seeing a low health Renekton. There were no nearby wards and I knew he was near the wolf camp. As I was walking towards it, but still unable to see him killing the camp, I was able to see his Crescent Active from his Ravenous Hydra, without seeing him. (Keep in mind I was on the other side of the wall, no vision). This gave away his position and I was able to land my arrow. Is this a bug? Or is it suppose to be like that? Does it also happen with the Active on Tiamat which is also Crescent?

m pretty sure all particle effects are visible from fog of war.

I've noticed similar things like this happening, so I don't believe what you saw was a bug. Particle effects such as a Gnar or Varus Q can be seen through a wall, even if the player is out of vision. Although your case is a little bit different, I think it is to the same effect.
