Akali ARAM bug?

During an ARAM game I just played I was Xerath and there was an enemy Akali on the team. There were several times throughout the game that I threw my Shocking Orb at her and it connected, though because she was using her Shadow Dance during, it never stunned, and I'm not sure it dealt damage either. I was under the impression if she got hit before or during the Shadow Dance the move still connected, or am I incorrect? If not it may be something worth looking into.
