Ranks Different Too High to play together but we are all unranked

My friends and i are trying to play together, we are all unranked this season and it says we are to high of a difference in ranks to play together. no one has even done a placement game. and last season we were all within 1 rank of each other (gold and plat ). wth? anyone else having this problem?
