Sion Smite Bug

As i was practicing Sion in a bot game, i used e which caused the jungle creature to go in the direction of the shout, as it was moving i used smite and it said it was invulnerable. Is this a bug? or was this intended? Sion Choo Choo

Not a bug, the minions do become invulnerable and untargetable. I have actually seen players use it as a poke mechanism in top lane. They would shout at a minion and it would poke the enemy champ from afar.
