Game Crashing

I haven't played LoL in a while, and I heard that there was this gigantic update that I somehow missed, due to my small hiatus from the game. Ever since I wanted to start playing it again however, I opened the app and it said "PVP.net Patcher Kernal has stopped working". I thought that maybe it was just a little tiny glitch, and tried opening it again, but the same thing popped up. Maybe I thought it was my PC, but everything else was working just fine except for the League of Legends app. After that, I then restarted my PC because it had to update, and I chose to also uninstall the app as well before updating my PC. Once that happened, I go back onto the League of Legends website and go through the downloading process again. This time as I thought it would finally work—it didn't as the same exact error happened in which the app just stopped working. I don't know how to fix this, and I would really appreciate some feedback because I really do enjoy playing League and I miss playing it dearly!
