{GAMEPLAY} Master Yi's q breaks through Malzahars ulti

I just had a game when Master Yi uses his q almost in the same time I as Malzahar use my utli on him. The problem is the animation of my ultimate is going off, then his q animation starts, he's unafected by my ultimate, and my ultimate went to full cooldown. I believe it shouldn't work like that. I understand that in the netcode he could be faster than me due to ping or something, but why is my ability going to full cooldown then? Master Yi q shoudn't have the ability to interupt. From the descriptions the game should have decided I was first and master Yi was traped in the ulti or he was first and my ulti shoudn't have triggered whatsoever becouse of the lack of target.
