Game not starting

I had recently acquired a new laptop as I was getting ready to head off for college. I wanted something that could run the new VR headset that I had purchased, so I got a very beefy laptop. Gtx 1070, 16Gb of ram, a solid state drive, all wrapped up in a nice laptop package. I used the laptop extensively with the VR headset and finally got around to downloading league. I downloaded it and wanted to see what my ping would be like over wifi (I had always run my desktop wired) so I installed and got ready to start a custom to check. And there is where the issue had showed its ugly face. I get to champ select, good. But when I finally get to where it should load me into game, well, that never happens. The game starts running, but the screen never transitions. Icon appears in task bar, game shows up in the task manager, but as soon as I try to alt tab over a prompt comes up with the usual, this program has stopped working. I have updated drivers, ran through a full repair, everything that I could possibly think of. I was wondering if this is a common issue.

So tldr, everything updated, full repair done, game doesn't start but client does.
