Didn't get free win from returning to series

This is my first post here so apologies if I'm not formatting correctly. I'm in gold 3 currently and failed my series 1-2. message popped up saying i would be granted a free win. I instantly won back into series and won another game expecting to be promoted. shouldn't be a problem for me to win into the next tier but just wanted to note that this seems like a bug in the system.
