Gangplank Barrels are NO UNIT and should not grand champs like cho gath passiv proks

Depends on how it dies, IMO.

If Cho'gath kills it, he should get the passive heal. If not, he shouldn't.

It's still a unit, like a Ward. You get gold off it too. Logically, Cho's passive should still proc it.
