LP loss when leaving a queue (not dodging champion select)

I submitted a support ticket earlier and the responding support member said that it might help to submit a bug report as the issue was unclear whether it was intended or not. The issue I had was that during champion select another played dodged, and I was placed back into the "searching for group" screen. While at this screen, not during champion select, I clicked the "X" to stop searching. There was no message, no warning like if you try to dodge in champion select, but when I checked my profile later I saw that I had been given a loss for my promotion and been placed back at 90 LP. I know that dodging in champion select causes LP loss and that not answering multiple AFK checks also can cause LP loss, but I did not refuse an afk check, I simply chose to end the search before any messages came up. This, according to the rules on the League of Legends website, should not count as a dodge and should not cost me LP.

I understand that I can't get my LP back, but I just want some clarification on what happened. Regardless of whether it's a bug or just poorly worded rules, I would like to know how this might be avoided in future.
