"A critical error has occurred"

I did some searches through Google to see if someone somewhere on any forum has encountered this issue that I have, but I turned up with nothing, so I'm posting it here!

I am using an HP laptop with Windows 10, for reference. It's relatively new; I got it around October or November last year.

Basically, at the end of some games (and I believe they were all ranked games), my screen freezes on the end-game screen (usually it freezes on defeat screens, not victory ones), and I cannot switch to any program or another screen at all. I can press ALT+TAB and then see what else is open, but I cannot actually switch to them. And, in one of those windows, is the same message as here: https://m.imgur.com/a/lVV1E (this image was used in a PBE thread a few months ago).

Since I cannot switch screens --even if I CTRL ALT DELETE and select Task Manager, I am still taken right back to the defeat screen; that defeat screen seems to override everything but signing out of my account and/or shutting down my laptop -- I can't create or send a crash dump file from that window, so I feel rather helpless.

I can still move my mouse around and even press ALT TAB to close *other * windows, e.g. chrome or spotify (which I keep minimized and dormant during games anyway) but doing so never helps at all ;w; and again, I can't get rid of the screen, save for just hitting CTRL ALT DELETE and clicking "Sign Out" or "Shut Down." This problem has been happening randomly the past week, and hasn't happened before this week.

Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is or as to what a solution could be? Is it the new anti cheat stuff, is it my antivirus..?

From the sounds of it, I think I have this exact same issue. It happens randomly but seems frequent, like every 4 or so games I play but doesn't seem to matter on victory or defeat. I'm not on a laptop, on my computer, never had this issue until recently. Can't select anything, only fix I know of is to restart my computer, ctl+alt+del just brings up the window but I guess it's hidden behind the end game screen.

i have the exact same problem, like every 3/4 game, it would crashes like this. Can't even close the dialogue, and had to sign out current user to even get back to desktop

I have this same problem.. I lost my plat 2 promos and many other games due to this error. I will not play this game if this keeps happening.. simply not fun.

I also have this problem. I’ve just been restarting my computer to reset it; it’s incredibly annoying. Anyone have any idea what to do to close league instead of restarting the entire computer?

Today was update which try to fix that but still the same error :( I cant go to the game because game dont loading only shows this error and now i have ban and i cant run game please fix it

Happens whenever I try to rewatch one of my games, even if I go back to rewatch it after booting league back up, the same error will happen at the same time of the replay. Can't rewatch my games qq

Ive been getting it a few times on my pc but theres nothing i can do cant alt tab can control shift esc, cant control alt delete just have to restart and by the time i do the game is over, needs a fix still happening in 2019

I happen same thing with that error . Just press the right click on the game then proprietes and slput the game tu run as administrator and select your windows then apply , Ok and lunch the game , that works to me . Hope works to you us well .

Update: it happened again on my first ranked game of the day, and we won so like Force Kill said, it doesn't matter win or defeat

Edit: this is also annoying because now I can't honor anyone at the end of a game that crashes like this :/

Same here too so we can't do anything at the final at the match ,i tried everything like other says ctrl+alt+delete etc ,we only can restart the pc or leptop and it is annoyng . Please Rito do something !!!!!![sg-shisa] EDIT: So i played a arurf and i won i clicked continue and then it blocked again,BUT i left the laptop and left for eat and when i came back it was at the lobby.IDK how that happend RITO FIX PLEASE IT HAPPENS AFTER THE LAST UPDATE YOU MADE!!!!!! EDIT AGAIN: For me after what happened a little up that bug didnt appear anymore try that and if it doesnt work im sorry for you! Hope i helped somebody! I have the same problem, but just start the game crashed, and I think I know what it is, I put borderless and BOOM. I had to uninstall it and reinstall it and I got full screen automatically but I do not like it so I put borderless i went back to failure. Please help me. [cass-cry]

This exact same thing just happen to me, causing me to lose my promo game. To me this truly is not fair in any way shape or form since this is event was no way in my controlling.

Here is the fix:

Settings (upper right)

General

Initiate Full Repair, run game as admin..

Worked for mesummoner 4

Happened to me, what made it work for SOME reason was running the game as an administrator, (right clicking then click run as admin) this ticked me off because I spent over an hour trying to fix this lol

I'm getting this same error in every game I play. Forcing my team to remake.. Please fix this Riot it's obviously happening to a lot of us and its making the game not playable for me and not fun because I keep losing my games and taking the penalty because of this.

The best way to escape this is signout windows and log back in and restart the game . You will end up looking 3~4 mins of gameplay still

I'm so glad I'm not the only one, but not glad that it's happening to so many people. I don't have Avast/AVG, or anything known that could be blocking the second window from opening. HTR doesn't work, I constantly force it to repatch, Initiating repair makes the error worse. I've been stuck on game is still in progress, once in a blue moon, I can crash it and get back in, but most of the time, I can't get back in. If I close it out and reopen, it still says game in progress, restarting my computer doesn't help. I'll be getting on live chat support for help. Please, someone let me know if there's a solution for this!

This is so anoying this has been happening for over 3 months now, spoke to somebody in Riot on livechat and i thought it would be fixed but this is still happening. I went in a ranked game just now and just when the minions hit the turret i got it and threw away my lead, very annoying and i have no idea why somebody from Riot hasn't replied to one of these yet with a fix or something. I see people from 12+ months ago here how can they not see this...

To fix this problem: 1: Right click on LoL client And select properties 2:select compatibility and CHECK the option Run this program as an administrator (make sure its on) and Apply. you should be good to go.

Yeah I've been having the same issue. I've been playing on my desktop and it'll crash on the victory screens and now I cant even play. I go all the way through champ select and then get kicked out from the game (so ill probably be reported and banned). I've restarted the game, my desktop, uninstalled/reinstalled and nothing has worked. Also haven't even been able to login to PBE since Team Tactics launched.

I just got this exact issue for the first time today. It happened on my final promo game into Silver 2. As soon as everyone was done picking champs and the game screen was loading, BOOM! There goes the error and like some other people, I could not Alt F4 , Alt Tab, or anything to get out of it and close the app. So I had to force shutdown my laptop and by the time I booted back up, the game shows that I was a leaver and once again I have to keep climbing up. I am also seeing the jungle plants that show vision as being ready the whole entire game even if they were used. Not to mention, when I am waiting in a party room for a ranked game, the game shows me as not ranked without a border as well. Something funky is going on with LOL right now.

Getting the same issues today. It only seems to happen when I'm trying to play TFT, and the only fix I've found is to wait for the game that I tried to join to end.

Try updating your graphics card, took me 2 months to figure out what was going wrong, my friend just tells me you need to update your graphics card, did that just now. and what do you know lmao... and all it took was a single update FeelsGoodMan

I SWEAR THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME! The game keeps shutting down after I select a champion. This is the only reason I go AFK. People keep reporting me and now I'm set to a 20 min low priority queue. I can't even fcking play anymore. I've tried EVERY way to prevent this from happening. From restarting my computer to putting it in a new desktop. Nothing works! EVEN TRIED DELETING AND RE-DOWNLOADING THE ENTIRE GAME. Seems like the client thinks we're still in game since it wont even let me reconnect. I'm on my laptop but since other people have reported this on different platforms, I don't think platforms are the problem here. Fck this. I refuse to play this game until this shit is finally fixed! It even pisses me off that this has been happening to ppl for a year and Riot didn't even took time to look at this issue. They're too busy messing around with Champs by over-buffing and nerfing the shit out of Champs. RIOT PATCH THIS UP IMMEDIATELY. To anyone who's having this issue, don't waste time trying to play while still having this bug. Quit the game until this thing's cleared up. You don't wanna end up having to wait forever just for a match. TahmKench

So i found a solution for this. Atleast for me. Disable Xbox Game Bar. Go to settings, Gaming and uncheck Xbox Game Bar. That's basically it. Hope this worked!
