Why doesn't GP passive proc Ludens like other DOT abilities?

Gangplanks passive does 4 damage over 3 seconds stacking 3 times... * /r/leagueoflegends

Gangplank Gangplank is everyone's favorite salty pirate of the League, whats unique about Gangplank is that he has many different builds, playstyles, and roles which he can play. Many people experiment with this champion and I have as well. I started playing Ap Gp and couldn't stop laughing as it is just so fun and entertaining to play, eventually I began playing him quite a bit with friends and had a great time. When Ludens item 3285 was introduced I was excited to test it out with Gangplank, when I found out it didn't work I was disappointed and later on I found out that other DOT abilities such as Brand passive, Fizz W, Etc. all worked with this new item. Why not Gangplank's? Gangplank passive does magic damage like all of the other DOT abilities but fails to work with Ludens. This should be an easy fix and I hope to see this change in the future. Thank you.

Yes, this would be a good addition to Gangplank. This would add a lot more variation in Gangplank builds. This would make gangplank more viable in games and he would be chosen more often. This is an amazing idea that would make me once again main Gangplank like I used too.

It doesnt proc luden's becuase it isn't a spell effect. GP's passive is applied with auto attacks (and his q because it acts like a ranged auto and a spell cast) so you can activate and proc sheen with the one ability. So ludens would proc if it was part of his q or applied with another damaging spell but blahdeblah

tl;dr its basically calling it a part of his auto attacks not spells

Completely passive on-hit abilities don't proc things like Rylai's or Luden's. It has to be something active. (see also: damage from Nashor's Tooth. Also note that you don't spellvamp off anything like this.)

GP's Q doesn't trigger Luden's or Rylai's because it is treated exactly as if it were an auto attack (it crits, you can lifesteal off it, it procs on-hit abilities). Ezrael's and Nasus' Q abilities work the same way.

GP's passive is an On-Hit-Effect. meaning it is only applied Via auto attacks and anything "on spell hit" will not apply to it. Such taht GP's Q, Ezreal's Q, and others DO NOT proc Ludens.
