Vladimir's Pool

Hi there, I just had a game as Vladimir whom I picked into Fizz since that used to work out quite well in early game. The idea was countering Fizz' ultimate with Vladimir's Pool, which is possible even when you're already hit. Well, used to be possible would be the right thing to say, since it didn't in said game. In the game, when I got hit by Fizz's ultimate, I thought to myself: "well, I know what do". And I did my thing, but unfortunately something changed, namely that I received the knockup and the damage while being pooled. That was new to me since it always worked before, so I assume that's a bug, since a can't recall a note in the patches.

Another incident was, but that's already a long time ago: I once pooled in order to dodge the damage and the silence from Cho's Scream, and the following happened: I received the "silenced" bubble while being pooled. So, either I dodged that, which means I can't be hit since I'm UNTARGETABLE, or I had been silenced in which case I wouldn't have been able to cast pool in the first place, but not both.

So maybe that shows that you guys should look into that ability again.

TL;DR: I received damage and knockup while being pooled with Vladimir from Fizz's ult, which shouldn't happen since the champion becomes untargetable and because that didn't happen before. Please check the ability.

Taken from the lol-wiki: Some abilities such as ChoGathSquare.png Cho'Gath's Feral Scream.png Feral Scream and CassiopeiaSquare.png Cassiopeia's Petrifying Gaze.png Petrifying Gaze can still affect Vladimir as he enters Sanguine Pool. He will take damage and crowd control effects, but Sanguine Pool will still take effect regardless.

Vladimir is still affected by damage over time effects (like Ignite.png Ignite and SwainSquare.png Swain's Torment.png Torment) that were applied before going into Sanguine Pool. Vladimir is untargetable by allied abilities during the duration, such as JannaSquare.png Janna's Monsoon.png Monsoon and SonaSquare.png Sona's Aria of Perseverance.png Aria of Perseverance.

SorakaSquare.png Soraka's Wish.png Wish will still heal him, because it will affect untargetable allies. Vladimir is not healed by the allied fountain while in his pool.

When Vladimir uses Sanguine Pool he is not affected by any auras, such as Abyssal Scepter item.png Abyssal Scepter's aura or Tailwind.png Tailwind. Vladimir cannot use Sanguine Pool to pass through temporary terrain created by abilities such as AniviaSquare.png Anivia's Crystallize.png Crystallize, JarvanIVSquare.png Jarvan IV's Cataclysm.png Cataclysm, or TrundleSquare.png Trundle's Pillar of Ice.png Pillar of Ice. When in Sanguine Pool, Vladimir is still stunned when passing through VeigarSquare.png Veigar's Event Horizon.png Event Horizon. If he does this, he will remain in his pool for its duration and remain stunned when coming out of the pool form, if the stun has not expired.

Fairly straightforward. It seems that point and click abilities along with skillshots don't work, AOE and DOT both work, although it may be more nuanced than that.

The pool does have a very short casting animation, which might explain the situation with Cho. Fizz doesn't make sense, though.

You can't dodge the fish. Even Shaco or Zed ulting will still get hit, and as you noticed so will Vlad. If you want some irony to sprinkle on that, a Fizz using troll pole will still get hit by another Fizz's ultimate. A QSS will still drop the fish to the ground however.

I play Vlad quite a bit myself. I agree with you. I used to be able to dodge Fizz's ult while pooled.

But.

Recently we have been able to be hit by said ult. I do not know exactly when the changes were made (not one change for this was mentioned on the Vlad side, but COULD have been mentioned on the Fizz side. I will have to go back into the patch notes for Fizz to find out). Fizz ult right now in game, is considered a "dot". Vlads pool does not untarget him from that damage. So either:

  1. At some point Fizz's ult was changed to a "dot" to be able to damage targets in certain situations (ie Vlad pooled)
  2. This was a specific interaction between just these two champs that changed for the worse for Vlad (he didnt need anymore hardships IMO)
  3. It was a bug that Vlad pool could dodge the damage previously and finally got "fixed" (without telling us Vlad players)
  4. It is in fact a bug now that will not be fixed for quite a while.

Whatever the answer may be, we have to pool BEFORE the ult his us now. In a way I feel this is a fairly healthy mechanic, but due to it arises the question: Why is Fizz's ult the only one that does this as opposed to Zed's ult? Or Karthus' ult? What about Vlads' ult? Can Vlad's be troll polled? They are all ults that are delayed damage, they should all be treated the same (I rather enjoy being able to pool a karthus ult). I can not remember if I can pool Zed ult, havent played against a Zed as Vlad for a long time.

i've noticed this bug the first few times i've played vlad, which is why i dropped him.

his w doesn't even fucking work.

but don't expect it to get fixed, everything else in this game is broken, like karthuses passive is still broken.

when fizz was first release Vlad could not dodge his ult while fizz could dodge Vlad's ult after about a month this was changed with no patch notes(other then basic Fizz balancing) and it seemed to be working well as Vlad and fizz could dodge almost all abilities(including delayed) except for tethers, IE Morgana ult, Fiddle drain, then about 6 months ago fizz ult starting hitting Vlad (and others) again and it has been this way ever since, so either it was working as intended at fizz launch and was a bug for almost 3 years without a single mention of the fix or the current sitiuation is the bug, since fizz ult can KNOCKUP THROUGH ZHONYAS ATM( go ahead try it), I'm more inclined to believe fizz is just buggy and getting preferential treatment while Vlad players are being told to screw off all of which is as usual.

I have a guess. When did you pool in comparison to the knock up? Maybe it unattached, but you were close enough to still get knocked up? Or maybe it has something to do with the Ult not being able to be QSS'ed post nerfs?

As someone who plays a fair bit of Vladimir I can certainly say that Fizz ult will still hit you.

If you pool before the skill shot lands you will dodge it like any other skill shot but if it hits you then you cant pool out of the damage.

I can only assume this is intended, he did manage to land the skill shot after all.
