LoL Client causes entire laptop to freeze and need force restart

Win 8.1, this has begun happening since Fiora patch only, eight times since last Friday across 3 accounts. Maybe it was after the Fiora patch, the much smaller one? I've tested this with just the client open after a fresh restart.. it randomly happened 10 seconds in, it's happened 15 minutes in to the client being open after my laptop's been on for five hours. It's happened when I've been tabbed out browsing the web, when I've been in TeamSpeak, during a Skype call, etc.

This has happened across 3 accounts at different windows of the client from Champ select in normals/ranked, to looking at champs to buy, and so on. I have tried Win 7 Compatibility mode, Run as Admin, etc. I will try to uninstall/reinstall, but beyond that, I am out of ideas on what to do. I've been able to do everything else freeze-free, so I'm isolated it to LoL. My Windows Event Viewer is of no help and does not notate anything beyond the hard power off/did-not-shut-down-properly-restart warning message.

Thoughts?

Also, completely UNRELATED and more in-game with Devourer: If your team kills Dragon and you've been killed before dragon dies, even if you get assist acknowledgement, you do not get the stacks. This might be working-as-intended, but if I die and players die afterwards, I get assist-points towards Sated, so just curious. =)

I'm not sure about the issues you're having with Win 8.1. However, you might have more luck bumping upto Win10. I've been using it over the past few days and haven't had any problems with League so far.

I also use my laptop for work; while I don't mind updating to Win 10, I want to throw it onto a SSD internally first. This laptop, while a great workhorse at 16 gigs of RAM, 2 video cards, etc etc... it has a normal HDD. However, I don't want to make that change before "going back to the office"-telecommuting tomorrow.

It's more than a little frustrating as once I'm -in- a game, I'm fine. But I can freeze at ANY time (I uninstalled/reinstalled and I froze after winning a game in the Victory screen). I've not frozen whilst using Adobe AIR for other things, I use Flash constantly for work, and other games like 7 Days to Die, Child of Light, Heroes of the Storm, Diablo 3, etc all run fine.

It's only been with the last patch or so since Fiora re-work or the mini one afterwards that this problem has manifested, and I am not quite sure what to do about it aside from just not playing LoL (as I only play ranked) on my main account, basically. =/

As an update.... It's frozen on me a few more times post uninstall/reinstall. I've once more tried Compatibility Mode for Win 7, and I've moved the directory in case there's a random bad sector there which my laptop refuses to acknowledge. Beyond that, I'll try installing Win 10 on an external USB-SSD and see how that goes. =)
