what is matchmaking ??

I saw thats a mission which says to play 8 games matchmaking only. I played 8 or 9 ranked games and it says that i played only 7 matchmaking games. To be sure i saw today that i ve played 7 mm games and i play one more rank and it hasnt been added,so whats the problem? [zombie-brand-facepalm]
