Same problem. All my drivers are up to date using DriverBooster. I'm playing on Windows 8. I'm also having a problem downloading updates for the computer. I'm wondering if it's related? I get this error: WindowsUpdate_dt000 OR 8007FFFF

I've been having the same error. I have a laptop with a Nvidia 640M LE and an integrated Intel 4000 chip. I could force the game to run on the integrated chip but kept getting the DirectX error every time I tried launching with the Nvidia 640M LE.

Here is one potential solution: Disable Displaylink Driver. There is a known conflict between Displaylink Drivers and DirectX. If you use a USB dock that uses Displaylink drivers OR if your computer manufacturer automatically installed Displaylink drivers on there, then you may experience this problem.

Here is the link for the tool that will allow you to Enable and Disable Displaylink Drivers without having to uninstall them:

This error affects many other games as well. If you would like to read more about it:

Hope that helps someone else!

This also happened for me right after that I upgraded my windows from 8 to 8.1 . I tried all the advices, but non of them worked. Since my computer has two graphics card (Nvidia 610M and Intel Integrated Graphics) I tried to completely uninstall Intel Graphics; And guess what.. It worked!!

I am having the same problem...no issues on my desktop but I'm trying to reconnect to a game right now (on my laptop) and keep getting the same error and my directx is up to date....not quite sure what to do.
