Cant select smite when timer goes past 20 sec in champ select

I got in to a ranked game and got last pick jg i picked vi and when i selected smite it wouldn't not work it just keep it the same(heal) and did that all the way until load in where i was stuck with heal and had to do vi jg with heal no smite and getting flamed by teams mates until a ff at 20 just to get demoted from s3
