Chat/Game not working

When I started up League I saw that the chat box said something like "can't load chat". I couldn't even see chats in champ select. Another thing to note is when I clicked on the "report a bug" button or the question mark on the top right of the client I would get an error message. So after I got in a game I tried restarting my client quickly because I didn't want anything like not being able to see chats in game to happen. But when I tried opening the client again I would only see the "league of legends" logo for a brief second before it disappeared without opening the client. I had to restart my computer to get it to work. Luckily my team managed to remake, but I ended up with the leaving penalty. Any thoughts on why this happened?
